Sustainability

Our commitment to sustainability is deeply embedded into the way we design and construct our data centers.

Our responsibilities as a provider and a neighbor

We recognize our responsibilities extend beyond the timely delivery of data centers. Our focus has always included the preservation of natural resources and minimizing the impact to the land and surrounding communities.

Reflective Roofing

The materials in each of our data centers’ roofing mitigate heat absorption, eliminate heat islands and reduce GHG emissions by up to 4,813 tons annually.

Batch Plants

All our campuses feature a batch plant for concrete production, significantly reducing transportation-related Scope Two emissions.

Dedicated Substations

Dedicated campus substations reduce transmission loss. Additionally, our selection of FRI transformers utilize sustainable cooling fluid.

Backup Power

Hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) biodiesel fuels our generators reducing associated GHG emissions by up to 85% compared to conventional diesel fuel.

CarbonCure & Concrete.ai

We recognize a sustainable design must start with more efficient use of concrete and reduction in cement. To achieve this goal, our buildings use CarbonCure manufactured concrete, a technology which injects captured CO2 into concrete, preventing it from ever entering the atmosphere. Every cubic meter of concrete produced using CarbonCure saves an average of 37 pounds of CO2 emissions.

To further minimize cement, Concrete.ai is deployed at Compass sites to optimize concrete mixes, reduce cement powder use and maximize sustainable building. Compass has been able to reduce the cement content in projects by about 20% and reduce embodied carbon emissions by 7 to 16%.

Commitment to Zero Waste

Compass has long championed zero waste. We work toward this goal at each of our sites by recycling, reusing or repurposing as much as possible. All employees at our campuses are trained to identify and recommend opportunities to eliminate or reduce waste and well-versed in the 5 Rs of zero waste: refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle and rot.

In recognition of our zero-waste success, Compass was awarded the Zero Waste to Landfill validation from UL Solutions. Making it one of a small, select group of data center services providers to receive the distinction. You can learn more about our UL validation here.

Green Finance

Compass’ commitment to sustainability is reflected not only in our operations, but also in our financing decisions. Learn more about our Green Finance Framework and Second Party Opinion.

ESG Reporting

Compass chooses to report environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics—not because it’s required, but because it’s the right thing to do for our customers and communities.
