Compass Datacenters is one of the best places to work in North Texas according to the Dallas Business Journal.
The list was based on results from a confidential employee survey covering topics such as team dynamics, trust in leadership and communication. It’s truly an honor to be recognized as a top workplace in the vibrant and competitive market the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area is today.
This recognition is one I’m especially proud of because at Compass, we are fundamentally a Culture First organization. We know that when our employees are empowered to do their best work, and to grow personally and professionally, we’ll be more successful.
For us, culture is more than a set of values, company events or rituals. It’s more than offering great snacks and appreciating employees (though we do that too). Our culture at Compass Datacenters is rooted in our core convictions.
Convictions provide concrete guidance on how we behave and communicate. Ours have served as the touchstone to our efforts since the company was founded::
- Humility In, Pride Out – We seek to learn from every situation, listen more than we speak, and analyze rather than criticize.
- Actions and Words are One – It is deceivingly simple but fundamental in a rapidly growing and fast-paced industry like ours. – we commit to doing what we say.
- Continuous Improvement – We consistently ask what we can do differently to improve our business – a responsibility shared by every employee, not just leaders.
- We Ask Why – Knowing why we are doing something is the first step toward doing it better.
These four convictions have served as a north star, allowing us to stay focused on our long-term vision even as the data center industry and our company experience rapid growth. Our conviction-led culture is the bedrock of our organization. It’s why we can continuously improve and innovate, and embrace a long-term strategy.
As firmly held beliefs, our convictions allow our people from different backgrounds and roles to collaborate with less miscommunication and conflict. They empower our colleagues–at any level–to question decisions, try new things and solve problems without worrying about damaging egos.
They’ve enabled us to embrace sustainability and find creative and innovative ways to reduce our data centers’ water and energy usage. They’ve empowered us to focus on diversity, building teams that represent many different personalities and perspectives, and even helping to bridge the gender gap in the construction industry.
Over the past five years, we have more than doubled our headcount, growing by over 143%. Through that growth, we’ve done things differently by putting culture first. Many employees say that they’ve never experienced anything like our culture before, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
